ICCFA 2012 Teaching and Learning Excellence Conference

Registration is now open for the Illinois Community College Faculty Association 2012 Teaching and Learning Excellence Conference. The conference will be held October 25 and 26 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield, Illinois.

Registration includes five Thursday evening Round Table Discussions with appetizers provided and over 20 sessions from which to attend on Friday; as well as Friday breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack. Session topics include e-textbooks, student retention, learning communities, online teaching, and more. Keynote speaker will be Ralph Martire, Executive Director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accounting. Mr. Martire will address the issue of pension reform.

Brown Bag Session:
Community College Completion Agenda

Terry O’Banion, President Emeritus, League for Innovation in the Community College, has been a leader in community college education for several decades. Marianne Farinas de Leon, Assistant Professor in the Department of Academic Success, attended the Innovations 2012 Conference in March where O’Banion was a keynote speaker and she had the good fortune to engage one-on-one with him. A brown bag session will be held on 9/26/12 at 12:30 p.m. in F-124. Marianne will share O’Banion’s perspective of the six main principles of a successful community college completion agenda.

Technology Grants Available

Harper College full-time faculty are invited to submit an application for a Technology Grant. Technology Grants are available for discipline-specific, technology-related professional development projects as well as for information gathering as to how to utilize technology as a tool in the teaching and learning process, such as attending related conferences or taking related courses.
